Project summary

A Chrome extension that restructures web text—splitting sentences, color-coding, and reading aloud—to help neurodivergent readers focus.

Problem statement

Dense, unstructured online text is difficult for neurodivergent readers, who can struggle to concentrate, lose their place on the page, and find it hard to decode grammatical relationships within sentences. Cognitive accessibility is widely overlooked in digital design.

Solution

A Chrome extension captures a page's content and sends it to a FastAPI / NLP backend that restructures it in real time. Features include sentence splitting, keyword bolding, colour-coding of nouns / verbs / adjectives, a Line Focus mode, and Text-to-Speech. Built with Vite (frontend) and FastAPI (backend NLP pipeline).

Key Highlights

  • Multiple complementary reading-support modes in one tool

  • Real-time content restructuring

  • Inclusion-centred design built during a 40-hour hackathon
